Clock Out

This one’s for you, sis.

The version of you who’s been carrying everyone’s burdens like it’s your full-time job. The family manager, the peacekeeper, the fixer.

But here’s the truth:

It’s time to clock out.

You’ve been showing up for everyone, answering every call, solving every crisis, holding space for everyone’s storms. And while you’ve been patching up everyone else’s life, yours has been slowly unraveling at the seams.

At the end of the day, who’s holding you when you fall apart?

Who catches you when your strength runs dry?

When you finally say, “I can’t do this anymore,” you’re met with silence… or worse, accusations that you’re being selfish. But here’s what they don’t understand:

You’re not being selfish.

You’re setting boundaries.

You’re choosing yourself.

For the sake of your peace, your healing, your sanity, you need to clock out.

Turn your phone off.

Run that hot bath.

Let the candles burn.

Let the stress melt off your body like the water running down your back.

You are not obligated to carry what was never yours.

Stop inserting yourself into other people’s drama for the sake of peace that doesn’t even exist for you. Let it fall apart. It’s not your fight. And when the dust settles, they’ll move on while you’re left with the emotional residue.

Energy transference is real.

Their chaos becomes your anxiety. Their decisions become your weight.

That’s not fair. And more importantly, it’s not healthy.

The pressure to always be strong so others can be weak?

Unfair.

And sometimes, it’s a pressure we’ve placed on ourselves without even realizing it.

So today…

Let it go.

Unclench your fists.

Loosen your shoulders.

Say it with me: Clock out, sis.

Because truthfully, the world won’t stop spinning if you step away.

And if they can figure it out in your absence GREAT.

If they can’t? So what. That’s not your assignment anymore.

The next time someone tries to pull you into the emotional fire, pause.

Breathe.

Count to 10. Then ask yourself:

Does this issue have anything to do with me?

What are the consequences if I don’t get involved?

Will this issue still exist without my help?

When was the last time someone showed up and rescued me?

If the answer leads to peace, you know what to do.

Clock out. And don’t clock back in until you’ve refilled your own cup.
